Seminar Aims to Develop Agricultural Sales Managers
Indiana Ag Connection - 03/24/2017

An upcoming two-day educational program from Purdue University's Center for Food and Agricultural Business will help current and future agricultural sales managers grow their coaching, leadership and employee-development skills.

Sales Management and Leadership is May 31-June 1 on Purdue's West Lafayette campus. Participants will learn about building the sales force, coaching at work, changing organizational culture, employee resilience and the evolution of sales management.

"When it comes to sales management, the best salespeople are often promoted to leadership positions," said Scott Downey, center associate director, associate professor and program presenter. "The problem is that the skills necessary to succeed in sales are very different than the skills required to be a good manager. Sales Management and Leadership helps these professionals make the transition--whether they're already in a management position or likely to move into one in the future."

Additional presenters are:

- David Downey, center executive director and professor emeritus of agricultural economics at Purdue.

- Tom Dukes, associate professor of counseling, educational leadership and school psychology at Rhode Island College.

- Sam Faggetti, customer development manager for WinField United.

- Dave Kucik, Purdue Crew head coach.

The program is a combination of interactive lectures, industry examples, and collaborative group work, including a hands-on coaching session at the Purdue Crew Boathouse.
