Geocache Adventure at Indiana Dunes State Park

Beat cabin fever and learn some history of northwest Indiana during a Geocache Adventure at Indiana Dunes State Park, Jan. 20.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the nature center and runs to 5:30 p.m. CST. Using GPS technology, participants will travel the park and nearby Duneland area while completing outdoor challenges, according to Marie Laudeman, Indiana Dunes State Park
"All you need is a GPS unit or the geocaching phone application along with a sense of adventure," Laudeman said. "All experience levels are welcome."
This year's challenge will explore the history of the dunes and their relationship to the South Shore Line commuter railroad. Partners from Barker Mansion, Northwest Indiana Geocachers Association and Westchester Township History Museum helped plan the
The adventure will end with prizes and awards during the annual chili dump dinner at 4:30 p.m. Participants are invited to bring their own chili to dump into a kettle that will be cooking over a fire at the nature center all afternoon.
