O'Bannon Woods to Host Pioneer Farmstead Days
Indiana Ag Connection - 06/23/2017

Experience the spirit of the Indiana settlers during Living Pioneer Farmstead Days at O'Bannon Woods State Park, July 1 and 2.

Activities run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Families can bring a picnic lunch to the park's Hickory Hollow Interpretive Center, walk around the living farmstead, observe a working blacksmith shop and cooper shop, explore a pioneer cabin and summer kitchen, and watch tomahawk throwing, weaving, cross-cut sawing and other pioneer demonstrations.

One of the park's oxen will power an 1850 haypress during demonstrations from 1 to 1:45 p.m. both days. In the event of mechanical difficulty, a special tour of the press, draft animals and barn will be offered.

For a full schedule of activities at the park on this Independence Day weekend, call the interpretive center at (812) 738-8234 or go to interpretiveservices.IN.gov.

The Living Pioneer Farmstead and haypress demonstrations are free after paying the standard gate fee of $7 per in-state vehicle or $9 per out-of-state vehicle.

The next Living Pioneer Farmstead and haypress demonstration will be Aug. 5. O'Bannon Woods State Park (stateparks.IN.gov/2976.htm) is at 7234 Old Forest Road, Corydon.
