Patoka Lake Named 'Best Guys Getaway' in Indiana
Indiana Ag Connection - 06/18/2018

Patoka Lake is the best spot in Indiana for guys to get away and fish, according to the readers of Electric Consumer magazine.

Electric Consumer readers voted the 8,800-acre lake in Dubois, Crawford and Orange counties as their favorite fishing spot. You can read more in the magazine's "Best of Indiana" June issue at electricconsumer.org. Electric Consumer is an Indiana electric cooperative publication. About 275,000 families and businesses receive the magazine.

Patoka Lake offers more than 160 miles of shoreline and plenty of fishing opportunities, according to property manager Jason Hickman.

"Crappie populations are numerous, with some weighing more than 2 pounds," Hickman said. "If you are looking for bass, many tournaments bring big bass in larger than 6 pounds."

The DNR has stocked walleye in Patoka for more than five years. Patoka also has an excellent catfish population with nearly 40-pound catfish caught every year.

Monroe Lake, West Boggs Lake, and Cecil M. Harden (Raccoon) Lake also received votes. Fish populations at all four lakes are monitored and managed by DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife fisheries biologists. And at Patoka, Monroe and Raccoon lakes, the DNR Division of State Parks manages much of the surrounding land for recreation.

West Boggs Lake in West Boggs Park, near Loogootee, is owned by the Daviess-Martin Joint Parks & Recreation Department.

Around 275,000 families and businesses across 27 locally owned, not-for-profit electric cooperatives receive Electric Consumer as part of their electric co-op membership.
