Indiana Winter Wheat Yield Above 2017

Indiana's 2018 winter wheat production is forecast at 19.38 million bushels, according to Greg Matli, state statistician, USDA, NASS, Indiana Field Office. This report is based on current conditions as of July 1, 2018.

Some highlights of the Crop Production Report follow:

The Indiana winter wheat yield is forecast at 76 bushels per acre, which if realized, would be 2 bushels above last year. The July 1 forecast is down 2 bushels from the June 1 forecast. Half the Indiana wheat crop was harvested as of July 1. The crop was rated 64 percent good to excellent at the beginning of July. Harvest has progressed normally to date.

Nationally, winter wheat production is forecast at 1.19 billion bushels, down less than 1 percent from the June 1 forecast and down 6 percent from 2017. As of July 1, the United States yield is forecast at 48.0 bushels per acre, down 0.4 bushel from last month and down 2.2 bushels from last year's average yield of 50.2 bushels per acre. The area expected to be harvested for grain totals 24.8 million acres, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 29, 2018, but down 2 percent from last year.
