Sink Your Teeth into Purdue Ag Alumni Common Read
Indiana Ag Connection - 08/17/2018

The Purdue Ag Alumni Common Read will make its debut this fall in honor of Purdue University's sesquicentennial celebration.

The event will unite Purdue Agriculture alumni and other interested readers from around the world to read "Unnaturally Delicious" and interactively participate in three live-streamed Q&As with the book's author -- Purdue University distinguished professor and agricultural economics department head Jayson Lusk -- and special guests to be announced.

Q&As will stream live on Purdue Agriculture's Facebook page at noon, Oct. 18; noon, Nov. 2; and 12:30 p.m., Nov. 13.

"Purdue Ag Alumni is pleased to host our first common read to discuss Dr. Lusk's inspiring examples of how agriculture and technology can join together to solve our world's most pressing food issues," says Danica Kirkpatrick, Purdue Ag Alumni program manager. "We invite anyone interested to consider participating in this discussion."

The global reach of common read befits a book about the ways in which scientists and farmers are pursuing safe, sustainable paths to feed a projected planetary population of 9 billion people by 2050. Lusk explores the work of innovators who are shaping the future of food.

"When we talk about feeding our world, it tends to trend negative. I wanted to make room for the optimism and healthy, ambitious innovation I see from so many professionals who are pursuing solutions," says Lusk, a food and agricultural economist who studies what humans eat and why we eat it. "The common read is a great way to move everyday discourse about this challenge toward the positive and inform people across the planet about some cool, cutting-edge work improving farming systems as we know them."

Copies signed by Lusk are available for orders placed online at purdue.ag/commonread through Aug. 31. Those purchasing a copy through the site will be automatically registered for the live events. Those who already have a copy of the book or who will read an electronic version can register for the live Q&A events at purdue.ag/commonread.

Information about Lusk and his guests, as well as how to submit your question, will be added to purdue.ag/commonread in the coming weeks and shared on Purdue Agriculture's Facebook, Twitter (@PurdueAg), and Instagram (@purdue_ag) pages.
