CDC Foundation Leader to Speak at Purdue Oct. 4

The Women's Health Symposium organized by the Women's Global Health Institute at Purdue will feature a community lecture given by Dr. Judith Monroe, president and CEO of the CDC Foundation.

Monroe's presentation, "Addressing Health Challenges: Together Our Impact Is Greater," is 8 p.m. on Oct. 4 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Monroe's career focus centers on the intersection of primary care and public health. She was the state health commissioner for Indiana from 2005-2010 and was president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials from 2008-2009 during the H1N1 pandemic. Monroe also has worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as director of the Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support, an office she started, before joining the CDC Foundation as president and CEO in 2016. Monroe received an honorary doctorate from Purdue in Health and Human Sciences in 2014.

The CDC Foundation helps CDC save and improve more lives by unleashing the power of collaboration between CDC and the philanthropic and private sectors to protect the health, safety and security of America and the world. Since 1995, the CDC Foundation has launched approximately 1,000 programs and raised more than $700 million through philanthropic engagements with philanthropies, corporations, organizations, governments and individuals.

Monroe's presentation is part of the Women's Health Symposium on Oct. 4-5. The symposium is sponsored by Discovery Park and the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.

The Women's Global Health Institute aspires to apply discoveries and technologies to women around the world by combining technology, engineering, natural and social sciences. The institute is focused on research on wellness, neurogenerative disorders, bone health and women's cancers. The institute aspires to deliver meaningful solutions to the challenges in women's health by securing partnership and support for research and training from government, private foundations and corporate companies. It is housed in Purdue's Discovery Park.
