Indiana Ag Connection - 08/03/2021

The impact on Indiana crops from July's heavy rainfall, emerging crop diseases and the current agriculture economic climate will all be discussed at this year's response to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's August Crop Report, held at the Indiana State Fair.

Jason Henderson, director of Purdue Extension and senior associate dean of the Purdue College of Agriculture, will convene a panel of experts and the state statistician of the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Indiana field office, at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 in the Farm Bureau Building Banquet Hall.

Panel participants are Nathanial Warenski, state statistician of the USDA's NASS, Indiana field office; Dan Quinn, Purdue assistant professor of agronomy and new Extension corn specialist; Shaun Casteel, Purdue associate professor of agronomy and Extension soybean and small grains specialist; Beth Hall, Indiana state climatologist; and Jim Mintert, Purdue professor of agricultural economics and director of the Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture.

Panel participants will be available for questions following their comments. Media and audience members can subscribe to the monthly USDA crop report online, including the Aug. 12 report, containing data for the U.S. and for each state with a summary of crop acreages, yield and weather conditions.
