The 27th Annual Chevron Tractor Restoration Competition (TRC) concluded last week at the 2024 National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Expo in Indianapolis, with Tyler Billings of Floresville, Texas, taking home the Grand Champion title for his meticulous restoration of a 1980 John Deere 4440. The competition, a highlight of the FFA Expo, showcases the mechanical and presentation skills of teens from across the United States.
Billings was awarded $10,000 for his achievement, topping a competitive field that included Trey Schronk of Hillsboro, Texas, and Samantha Williams of Atascadero, California, who placed second and third, respectively.
The event not only highlighted the competitors' restoration skills but also emphasized the importance of safety, with Billings also winning the Safety Award.
The TRC is more than a competition; it's a year-long endeavor that equips students with valuable skills in mechanics, project management, and presentation.
Participants are judged on their restoration's authenticity, quality, and the effectiveness of their presentation, reflecting the program's commitment to fostering well-rounded skills applicable in both agriculture and business.
