The 2025 Estate & Succession Planning for the Family Farm workshop will take place virtually on July 17, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon ET. Hosted by the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation, this free educational event is designed for both farm families and legal professionals interested in protecting farm legacies and managing successful transitions.
The virtual event offers 3 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits and includes three informative sessions led by estate planning professionals.
The first session, “Legacy First: Building the Path Forward,” will be presented by Cheryl Mitchell of Cheryl B. Mitchell Farm Legacy. It will focus on the importance of early planning to secure a farm’s future and legacy.
The second session, “Hot Topics in Farm Estate Planning and Protecting the Farm from Third Parties,” will be led by Michelle Adler from Gordon, Adler, Hayes & Washburn PC. She will cover timely issues that affect farm ownership, estate strategies, and legal protections from outside threats.
The final session, “Farm Transitions That Work (and Those That Don’t): Lifetime Succession Case Studies,” features Justin Schuhmacher of Indiana Estate & Elder Law. He will share real-life examples of successful and unsuccessful farm transitions, highlighting key lessons to help families avoid common mistakes.
This virtual workshop is a valuable opportunity for farm owners, family members, and attorneys to strengthen their understanding of estate and succession planning. It is especially helpful for those looking to ensure smooth generational transfers and long-term protection of their agricultural operations.
Registration is free, and participants can expect practical insights and case-based learning. By attending, farm families can gain confidence in planning ahead for a stable and secure future.
