Kendell Culp, Vice President of Indiana Farm Bureau, recently addressed Congress, advocating for support to rural small businesses in Indiana. He emphasized that improving the quality of life in rural communities is crucial and highlighted the challenges they face.
Culp informed lawmakers about the declining population and workforce in many rural counties, leading to a lack of financial support and essential services, such as licensed daycare centers. However, he shared success stories like the Appleseed Childhood Education and Franciscan Health Rensselaer partnership, which brought childcare services to Rensselaer, benefiting families and local businesses.
To support rural communities, Culp urged Congress to continue providing incentives to small businesses and pass an on-time Farm Bill with funding for rural development. He highlighted the importance of programs and grants within the rural development title that address quality-of-life issues in these areas.
Additionally, Culp stressed the need to expand broadband access in rural regions and address workforce challenges that impact rural businesses. He encouraged lawmakers to take proactive measures to uplift rural communities and enhance their prospects for a better future.
