The annual Hoosier Sheep Symposium, sponsored by Purdue University College of Agriculture’s Indiana Sheep and Wool Market Development Program (IN S&W) and the Indiana Sheep Association (ISA), is scheduled for September 21 at Huntington University.

The event, located at 502 Lake St. in Huntington, will feature a variety of expert speakers discussing key topics relevant to the Indiana sheep industry.

This year’s symposium will include sessions that cater to the needs of sheep producers and those interested in the industry. Among the highlights are:

“Marketing Your Lamb” — Nick Forrest, known as the “Lamb-bassador” from Forrest Family Farm, will share insights on effective lamb marketing strategies.

“Benefits of Wool Pelleting in Indiana” — Whitney Schlegel of Marble Hill Farm will explore the advantages of wool pelleting for Indiana producers.

GEMS National Sheep Research Project — Luiz Brito, a Purdue associate professor of animal sciences, will present the latest findings from the GEMS national sheep research project.

“We are very excited about the program we have put together for this year’s symposium,” said ISA President Jane Smith. “It is a great mix of pertinent topics impacting the Indiana sheep industry. I hope you can join us.”

The symposium will take place in the Habecker Dining Commons and the attached lobby at Huntington University. Breakfast, including pastries and coffee, as well as lunch, are included in the $30 registration fee. Registration begins at 9 a.m. ET, followed by a welcome message from ISA President Jane Smith at 9:45 a.m.

Those interested in attending can register online. Additional information is available on the ISA website. This symposium provides an excellent opportunity for networking and learning from industry experts, making it a must-attend event for anyone involved in or interested in the Indiana sheep industry.
