Farm Leaders Support EPA Biofuel Proposal

Farm Leaders Support EPA Biofuel Proposal

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently hosted a virtual hearing to discuss proposed biofuel volumes for 2026 and 2027 under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

Leaders from agriculture and biofuel sectors strongly endorsed the plan, emphasizing growth opportunities and supply readiness.

Adam Kuffel from ADM expressed confidence in the U.S. supply chain and biofuel capacity, calling the proposed volumes achievable and timely.

National Oilseed Processors Association President and CEO Devin Mogler applauded the high targets but warned against potential market disruptions from Small Refinery Exemptions. “Any SRE applications must face strict, transparent review, and any waived gallons must be accounted for in order to preserve the integrity of the volumes,” he stated.

Donnell Rehagen of Clean Fuels Alliance noted that the domestic production of renewable diesel and biodiesel has doubled since 2020. He urged the EPA to maintain the proposed levels to support continued growth.

Emily Skor of Growth Energy highlighted the benefits of blending certainty for rural communities, calling the proposal a path to job creation and innovation in renewable fuels.

Geoff Cooper, head of the Renewable Fuels Association, backed the 15 billion gallon proposal for 2026 and 2027, aligning it with ethanol’s expanding role in clean energy.

Industry leaders also emphasized the need for fair policy enforcement and protection against exemptions that could undermine progress.

Finalizing the proposal as written would provide the stability needed for further investment and innovation in the renewable fuel sector.
