Purdue University is excited to announce the return of the Digital Ag Showcase, taking place on Friday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. ET at the Beck Agricultural Center in West Lafayette. This free event offers attendees a unique opportunity to witness demonstrations showcasing cutting-edge research and practical applications in the field of data-driven agriculture.
According to Dennis Buckmaster, Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Dean's Fellow for Digital Agriculture, "We are currently experiencing a dynamic era of digital transformation in the agricultural sector. Participants at our event will gain valuable knowledge that will empower them to harness the vast amount of data generated by their farming operations."
The Digital Ag Showcase will feature a range of demonstrations and highlights of Purdue's work in the field of data-driven agriculture. This year, the event will introduce new sessions dedicated to livestock and specialty crops, as well as sessions tailored specifically for high school educators.
Key topics to be covered include:
- Digital tools for effective farm business management
- Utilizing digital weather resources for agricultural applications
- Implementing recycled drainage water for corn irrigation and fertigation
- Sensor-based detection of plant diseases
- Applications of video and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in livestock management decision-making
- Digital recordkeeping platforms for specialty crop producers
Furthermore, educators attending the event can take advantage of sessions focusing on digital agriculture curriculum and training for high school agriculture and STEM educators. Indiana teachers attending the showcase will be eligible to earn Professional Growth Plan points.
Educator session topics include:
- Augmented reality applications in agricultural technology, specifically related to electromagnetism
- Digital agriculture curriculum developed by Purdue Extension
- Demonstrations of sensors targeting precollege audiences
- Panel discussion featuring high school educators with experience in teaching digital agriculture topics
The program will also include an engaging presentation by Aaron Ault, a full-time farmer and part-time software engineer/architect from Rochester, Indiana. Using his own crop and livestock farm as examples, Ault will demonstrate how simple digital platforms can enhance logistics and decision-making processes.
The Digital Ag Showcase will be held at the Beck Agricultural Center, located at the Agronomy Center for Research and Education, 4550 US 52 West, West Lafayette.
Farmers, industry professionals, educators, students, and anyone interested in digital agriculture are encouraged to attend. Preregistration is requested at purdue.ag/digitalagshowcase by July 6, as lunch will be provided.
