Purdue, Ag Retailers Partner with Arizona State for Academy
Indiana Ag Connection - 11/15/2017

Purdue University's Center for Food and Agricultural Business and the Agricultural Retailers Association are partnering with Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business to present the 2018 ARA Management Academy, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, on the ASU campus in Tempe, Ariz.

The four-day workshop will develop participants' management skills while facilitating collaboration with peers through engaging interactive exercises, faculty-led presentations and small group discussions. The academy is specifically designed for those who currently work or plan to work in management capacities at agronomic organizations.

"ARA Management Academy helps participants think about their roles as managers, how they improve the performance of their businesses and how their roles as managers interact with the roles of other parts of the organization," said Allan Gray, center director and Land O'Lakes Chair in Food and Agribusiness. "The academy focuses on that integration and offers a deeper understanding of how to be better strategic managers in whatever roles participants are playing to help lead their organizations into the future."

In addition to Gray, Purdue's Scott Downey and Michael Gunderson, associate center directors and associate professors of agricultural economics, will facilitate sessions during the program. Arizona State University faculty presenters are Carola Grebitus, assistant professor of food industry management; Thomas Kull, associate professor of supply chain management; and Suzanne Peterson, associate professor of leadership. Program topics include marketplace trends and competitive positioning, strategic thinking, examining profitability, creating value for customers, implementing organizational leadership strategies, and operations and supply chain management.

Participants will learn how to use decision analysis tools for optimal operation, evaluate profitability and performance, differentiate their organizations, and thrive in environments with constant change.

This program is especially valuable for sales representatives, agronomists and middle managers who expect to have more management responsibilities in the future.

The program early bird rate for ARA members is $2,295 through Dec. 23. After that, the program is $2,495 for members. Non-members can register for $2,695. Learn more about the academy and register at
