Boost for FFA and 4-H Literacy

Boost for FFA and 4-H Literacy

By Andi Anderson

The Indiana Farm Bureau (INFB) is now accepting applications for its inaugural Ag Literacy Challenge Grant. This grant offers funding to Indiana FFA chapters or 4-H clubs that seek monetary support for new or enhanced agricultural literacy programs in their communities.

To qualify, ag literacy programs should fall into one of the following categories:

  • An event that educates consumers about Indiana agriculture.
  • A collaborative program fostering networking and education between youth and adults in agriculture.
  • An event promoting agricultural practices, policies, or educational efforts that stimulate community action.

Indiana FFA chapters and 4-H clubs can apply for grants of up to $1,000 during the grant cycle. A total of $10,000 will be awarded by INFB to selected chapters and clubs.

Applications should include a summary explaining the importance of the project, a budget outline, goals, and a program description.

Grant recipients are expected to submit a report to INFB upon the completion of their ag literacy program and present their program to their local county Farm Bureau.

The Ag Literacy Challenge Grant is one of many ways INFB supports youth in agriculture throughout the year. Other initiatives include scholarships for graduating seniors and college students, Collegiate Farm Bureau chapters at Purdue, Huntington, and Vincennes universities, FFA advocacy days and training sessions, and various leadership development events, competitions, awards, and conferences.

The submission deadline for the Ag Literacy Challenge Grant is September 15, 2024. To be eligible for the grant, ag literacy programs must take place between October 1, 2024, and August 1, 2025.

This grant provides an excellent opportunity for FFA chapters and 4-H clubs to secure funding for their valuable educational programs, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of agriculture within Indiana communities.

For more information and to apply, interested parties should contact the Indiana Farm Bureau or visit their website. This initiative is a significant step in promoting agricultural literacy and supporting the next generation of agricultural leaders.
