Several farmers representing the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) and Indiana Corn Marketing Council (ICMC) recently traveled over 2,000 miles from Indianapolis to Cartagena, Colombia. The purpose of their trip was to learn more about the benefits of collaborating with other checkoff programs to boost agricultural exports.
Their main goal is to expand the reach of U.S. soybeans, corn, and meat products beyond the borders of the United States. By working together and promoting pork and beef in other countries, they can efficiently utilize their cattle and hogs to consume raw products domestically and send the value-added products abroad.
The market for U.S. beef, pork, and poultry in Colombia is growing rapidly, and the farmers witnessed Indiana pork being sold in high-end stores alongside other Indiana products. This demonstrates the success of their collaborative efforts.
Indiana farmers believe that continuing to work together through different checkoff programs will further increase the value of all U.S. agricultural products. When they collaborated in 2022, U.S. beef and pork exports used millions of bushels of Indiana corn and soybeans, generating significant revenue for the state.
