Steve Brown has been appointed as the new State Executive Director (SED) for the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana. He began serving in this role on May 5, 2025, returning to lead the agency after previously holding the same position during an earlier administration.
Brown brings over 40 years of experience from working on his family farm and more than three decades with the USDA. His background includes service in both Porter and Carroll counties as well as at the Indiana State FSA Office.
His long-standing commitment to agriculture was recognized in 2023 when he was inducted into the Carroll County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
As SED, Brown is responsible for overseeing the implementation of federal agricultural programs in Indiana. These include commodity, conservation, credit, and disaster assistance programs designed to support farmers and ranchers while ensuring a secure and affordable supply of food, fiber, and fuel for all Americans.
National FSA leaders highlighted the critical role of state directors in supporting rural communities. FSA Administrator Bill Beam emphasized that state leaders like Brown help carry out the agency’s mission of putting producers first and shaping the future of agriculture.
Under Brown’s leadership, Indiana farmers can expect continued support for their operations through access to USDA services. These programs are vital in helping producers invest in and expand their work, recover from disasters, and adopt conservation practices.
Brown’s appointment reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural leadership at the state level and ensure that producers across Indiana have the resources they need to succeed. He brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to his new role, continuing his lifelong commitment to agriculture and rural development.
