The USDA has recently announced the addition of 91 scholars through its 1890 National Scholars Program, a key initiative supporting diverse agricultural professionals. This program, a collaboration with 19 historically Black land-grant universities, aims to prepare students for impactful careers in agriculture, food sciences, and natural resources.
Each scholar, selected from a competitive pool of applicants, will receive comprehensive support covering tuition, books, and living expenses, ensuring they can focus entirely on their education.
Beyond financial support, the program integrates valuable USDA internships, offering real-world experience across various USDA agencies such as the Agricultural Research Service and the U.S. Forest Service.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate educational needs of talented students but also aligns with broader USDA goals under the Administration to enhance national food systems, ensure equitable access to resources, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
By fostering a more representative workforce, the USDA continues to remove systemic barriers and champion equality within the sector.
As these scholars embark on their academic journeys at institutions like Tuskegee University and North Carolina A&T State University, they carry the potential to influence and innovate within the agricultural sector, supporting the USDA’s mission to touch all American lives positively.
