Dairy nutrition incentives program seeks co-sponsors

Dairy nutrition incentives program seeks co-sponsors

By Andi Anderson

Earlier this year, the Dairy Nutrition Incentives Program Act was introduced in both chambers of Congress by U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), along with U.S. Representatives Jim Costa (D-Calif.) and Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.).

This legislation builds on the Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives Projects (HFMI), a program designed to encourage the purchase of skim and 1% milk options among SNAP participants. The Dairy Nutrition Incentives Program Act seeks to expand HFMI's scope, allowing it to encompass fuller fat varieties of milk, cheese, yogurt, and other nutritious dairy products.

The International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) is actively engaged in lobbying to include this bill in the upcoming Farm Bill. To advance this cause, they are aiming to send 500 letters to members of Congress in support of the bill.

You can join IDFA in advocating for this crucial legislation by encouraging your own members of Congress to become co-sponsors of the Dairy Nutrition Incentives Program Act of 2023. To make your voice heard, visit IDFA's campaign center, where you can easily send an email to your representatives with just a few clicks.

If you have any questions or require further information about the bill or the advocacy campaign, please do not hesitate to reach out to the IDFA at rrosado@idfa.org.

Your support can make a significant impact on expanding access to essential dairy nutrition initiatives and promoting a healthier future. Join the advocacy effort and help make a difference in your community.
