Indiana Ag Leaders Promote State as USDA Relocation Site

Indiana Ag Leaders Promote State as USDA Relocation Site

By Andi Anderson

Indiana agricultural leaders traveled to Washington, D.C. this week to meet with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. Their goal was to strengthen partnerships between Indiana’s ag sector and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Representatives from key Indiana organizations, including AgriNovus, Beck’s, Corteva, Elanco, Purdue University, and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), participated in the visit.

ISDA Director Don Lamb expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage directly with Secretary Rollins.

The meeting, coordinated by Senator Banks, provided Indiana’s ag leaders a platform to discuss the state’s agricultural achievements, industry challenges, and future opportunities. Lamb emphasized the importance of building a strong working relationship between Indiana and federal agriculture leaders.

One significant topic discussed was the potential relocation of USDA offices. USDA has previously suggested the idea of moving parts of the agency out of Washington, D.C. to other regions across the country. Indiana leaders took this chance to promote Indianapolis as an ideal location for USDA operations if such a move occurs.

“We wanted to let Secretary Rollins know that if the USDA ever seriously considers relocating offices outside of D.C., Indianapolis would be a great choice,” Lamb stated.

The Indiana delegation highlighted the state’s robust agricultural industry, research leadership through Purdue University, and strong partnerships within the agri-business sector as reasons for consideration. They believe these factors make Indiana a natural fit for USDA expansion.

The visit reinforced Indiana’s commitment to strengthening its agricultural industry and enhancing collaboration with national policymakers. Ag leaders hope that promoting Indiana’s strengths will create new opportunities for the state’s farmers, businesses, and research institutions.

Indiana agriculture remains dedicated to fostering national connections and offering solutions that benefit both the state and the broader farming community.
