The Indiana State Board of Animal Health regarding the upcoming total solar eclipse (TSE) on April 8th. It's important for individuals, especially those traveling with livestock, to be prepared for potential traffic delays and other challenges associated with the event.
Given the expected influx of visitors to Central Indiana for the eclipse viewing, highways and county roads, particularly I-70, are anticipated to be congested throughout the day. Past experiences from eclipses in other states have shown significant increases in travel times, and drivers should anticipate similar delays.
Livestock haulers should consider adjusting their travel plans accordingly to mitigate any potential disruptions caused by heavy traffic. Additionally, drivers are advised to refrain from stopping or pulling over along roadways during the eclipse to avoid creating hazardous conditions for themselves and others.
It's worth noting that GPS mapping systems may redirect drivers to alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion. However, drivers should exercise caution, as these alternative routes may not always be suitable, particularly for heavy trucks.
For real-time traffic updates and information on optimal viewing locations and timelines for the eclipse, individuals can refer to resources provided by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the official state website.
