Indiana Dairy Producers Recognize Outstanding Individuals in the Industry


The Indiana Dairy Producers recently honored exceptional individuals in the dairy industry with awards and scholarships. Charles and Margaret Carter of Carterly Dairy in Thorntown were recognized as Producers of the Year, while Steve and Abbie Herr from Kendallville were named Young Producers of the Year.

In addition to the producer awards, scholarships were presented to deserving students. Sophia Bollenbacjer from Argos received the Alan Kuehnert Memorial Scholarship, and Jacqueline Mudd from Berne was awarded the Indiana Dairy Producers scholarship.

In another industry announcement, Brian Shuter of Frankton was appointed as the new executive vice president of the Indiana Beef Cattle Association (IBCA). Shuter, who has extensive experience in the beef cattle industry and has been actively involved with IBCA, will succeed Joe Moore, who retired in March.

The Indiana State Fair Foundation and the Clifford family introduced the Terry Clifford Memorial Leadership Award in honor of Terry Clifford, a former president of the Indiana State Fair Board. The award will recognize a high school student who has been involved in Indiana FFA or Indiana 4-H and actively participated in the Indiana State Fair.

Reagan Koester from Wadesville, Indiana, was selected as the recipient of the $7,000 Soy Scholarship for the 2023-24 academic year. Sponsored by the American Soybean Association and BASF, the scholarship recognizes Koester's involvement in FFA and 4-H.

The Indiana Agriculture Nutrient Alliance (IANA) announced new leadership appointments for 2023. Josh Trenary, executive director of Indiana Pork, was appointed as chairman, and Mike Dunn, director of freshwater conservation at The Nature Conservancy, became vice chairman. Other positions include Andy Tauer as treasurer and Jerod Chew as USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service adviser.

In the agtech sector, Indianapolis-based Intelinair acquired Aker Technologies Inc., a digital agriculture company located in Effingham, Illinois. This acquisition will enhance Intelinair's capabilities in high-resolution crop imaging and data analysis, providing more valuable insights for growers.

These developments highlight the achievements and advancements within Indiana's agricultural community, demonstrating the dedication and commitment of individuals and organizations to the industry's growth and prosperity.
