Nickel New CTIC Communications and Outreach Manager
Indiana Ag Connection - 06/19/2017

Award-winning journalist Abbey Nickel has joined the Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) as communications and outreach manager. Nickel was a features and entertainment reporter for the Evansville (Indiana) Courier and Press--where some of her work was picked up by USA TODAY and the Associated Press. Nickel also interned for National FFA, the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, and the newsroom of Columbus, Ohio's ABC-TV affiliate.

"Abbey brings a wide range of experience in print, broadcast and social media, all of which is important for reaching the farmers, researchers, policymakers and other audiences we are in contact with every day," says Chad Watts, CTIC's executive director in West Lafayette, Ind. "Communications is central to CTIC's mission as a hub for conservation information, so having Abbey on our team strengthens the whole organization. We are delighted to have her on board."

Born in Illinois, Nickel moved to rural Ohio with her family as a child. There, she joined 4-H and showed chickens, hogs and horses. Nickel spent part of her youth on a cattle and sheep farm, and developed a passion for agriculture that drew her to CTIC.

"I love what CTIC stands for," Nickel says. "Sharing agricultural stories is something I'm passionate about, and CTIC takes it a step further, helping farmers and communities find ways to make their operations more sustainable and getting them the tools and information they need. CTIC is making a difference on the ground, and that's something people need to know."

A graduate of the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio, Nickel has been recognized for in-depth reporting, opinion writing, news coverage and headline writing by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Ohio Newspaper Association.
