Indiana August Crop Forecasts Show Higher Yields

Indiana farmers anticipate higher corn and soybean yields this year, according to USDA NASS, Great Lakes Regional Field Office. Indiana corn producers planted 400,000 more acres than in 2019. Soybean acreage is also up; there were 300,000 more acres planted this year compared with last year.

Corn and soybean crop development remained ahead of the five-year average and crop conditions have remained stable during the growing season.

Highlights of the August 1 Crop Production report follow:

- Indiana's corn yield is forecast at 188 bushels per acre, up 19 bushels from the previous year. Total production is forecast at 987 million bushels.

- Soybean yield is forecast at 61 bushels per acre, up 10 bushels from the 2019, setting a new State record. Total production is forecast at 346.5 million bushels, up 27 percent from last year, also a record high.

- Winter wheat yield is estimated at 67 bushels per acre, down 3 bushels from the previous forecast but 5 bushels above last year. Winter wheat production is forecast at 20.8 million bushels.
