Another Record-Breaking Year for Indiana Popcorn Production



It was another record-breaking year for popcorn growers in Indiana, according to Nathanial Warenski, state statistician, USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office.

Indiana growers planted a record high 97,000 acres of popcorn in 2021, up 3,000 acres from 2020. A record high total of 96,000 acres were harvested, up 2,000 acres from last year. The 2021 average yield set a state record at 52.0 cwt per acre. The 2021 yield was up 3 cwt/acre from the previous year. Total production was 4.99 million cwt, up 8 percent from a year ago.

The average price was $20.50 per cwt, an increase of $4.40 from the previous year. The crop value of production was a record high $102 million, up 38 percent from last year.
