For the week ending April 27, 2025, Indiana farmers had 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork. Warm weather and good moisture helped maintain steady planting and crop growth across the state.
Topsoil moisture conditions were reported as 2% very short, 8% short, 70% adequate, and 20% surplus. Subsoil moisture conditions were 3% very short, 14% short, 67% adequate, and 16% surplus.
Corn planting reached 10% complete, improving from 2% last week, but slightly below the 5-year average of 13%. Corn emergence was at 0%, in line with last year’s trend.
Soybean planting stood at 10%, higher than last week’s 3%, and close to the 5-year average of 10%. Early progress shows good momentum for the season.
Winter wheat continued developing strongly. Fifty percent of winter wheat had jointed, and 4% had headed, a slight increase compared to the previous week. The winter wheat condition was reported as 2% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 15% excellent. These ratings indicate overall healthy crops moving into May.
Across different regions, Indiana recorded warmer temperatures and light to moderate rainfall. Most areas reported temperatures ranging from 56°F to 66°F, with rainfall between 0.13 inches and 1.80 inches.
Overall, Indiana farmers benefited from favorable soil conditions and decent weather, allowing steady planting and supporting healthy winter wheat development. Continued warm and mild conditions will further aid planting and crop growth in the coming weeks.
