Indiana Farmers Expect Smaller Corn and Soybean Yields



Indiana farmers anticipate smaller corn and soybean yields this year, according to Nathanial Warenski, state statistician, USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office. The October Crop Production Report is based on conditions as of October 1.

Some highlights of the report follow:

  • Indiana corn yield is expected to be 187 bushels per acre, 8 bushels lower than last year's yield but 1 bushel higher than last month's forecast. Total production is expected to be 944 million bushels, down 8 percent from 2021.
  • Indiana soybean production is expected to total 344 million bushels, up 2 percent from a year earlier. The yield is forecast at 59 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from 2021 and down 1 bushel from last month.
