Indiana FFA Recognizes Outstanding Members as State Stars at Convention

The 94th Indiana FFA State Convention brought together exceptional young individuals who exemplify excellence in agriculture and leadership. The Indiana FFA Association announced the State Stars, recognizing their outstanding achievements in various categories. As Star Finalists, these members underwent a rigorous selection process that included application submissions, personal interviews, and site visits.

During the convention's Hoosier Degree Session, held at Purdue University on June 21, 2023, the winners were revealed in four award categories: Star Farmer, Star in Agricultural Placement, Star in Agribusiness, and Star in Agriscience. These remarkable individuals not only received well-deserved recognition but also received scholarships, plaques, and award pins to commemorate their accomplishments.

Ryan Kihlstrum from Eastern Hancock FFA Chapter was named the Star in Agricultural Placement. With his dedication and growth in field tile work at B Thompson Associates LLC, Ryan has displayed remarkable problem-solving skills and the ability to train new hires.

Matthias Hefty from DeKalb FFA Chapter earned the title of Star in Agriscience for his innovative approach to reducing hay waste in his sheep and meat goat enterprise. Using the scientific method, Matthias collected extensive data, resulting in an impressive 85% reduction in hay waste.

Cole McCloskey, representing Lewis Cass FFA Chapter, was honored as the Star in Agribusiness. Cole's passion for restoring antique tractors and equipment led him to acquire and maintain these pieces, further developing his expertise in repairing and preserving agricultural artifacts.

Lucas Lyons, from Jay County FFA Chapter, was recognized as the Star Farmer. As a seventh-generation farmer, Lucas has demonstrated exceptional skills and dedication in managing his own operation, which includes hay production, cash-rent ground, and a thriving goat enterprise.

The Indiana FFA Association celebrates these State Stars for their contributions to the agricultural industry and their commitment to leadership within the FFA. These young individuals serve as shining examples of the talent and potential found among Indiana's future agricultural leaders.
