Alan Morrison, a long-serving representative for Indiana’s House District 42, has been appointed head of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Morrison’s new role aligns with Governor-elect Mike Braun’s focus on creating efficient regulations to support economic development.
During his tenure in the House, Morrison represented Parke and Vermillion counties and parts of Vigo, Fountain, and Clay counties. He was a key member of the environmental affairs and natural resources committees, shaping policies that balanced business interests and environmental considerations.
As the new head of the DNR, Morrison intends to streamline regulatory processes across multiple state agencies, including the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the Utility Regulatory Commission.
His vision focuses on fostering a business-friendly environment to attract investments and promote growth. “Our goal is to work as a team to advance economic development and make it easier for businesses to thrive,” Morrison stated.
Morrison has a history of supporting initiatives that influence Indiana’s environmental policies. He sponsored legislation reducing wetland protections, benefiting home developers, and supported projects for carbon capture and storage by industries.
Additionally, he co-authored bills promoting mine reclamation and requiring utilities to include coal plant closures in long-term plans.
His approach to leadership balances economic and environmental priorities. By aligning regulations with the state’s energy and environmental goals, Morrison seeks to enhance Indiana’s economic landscape while maintaining its natural resources.
Morrison will resign from his current position as a state representative on January 13, coinciding with Governor Braun’s inauguration. His leadership at the DNR is expected to shape Indiana’s future, driving business growth and addressing environmental challenges.
Morrison’s appointment reflects Indiana’s commitment to balancing economic development with sustainable environmental management, fostering progress across multiple sectors.
