Farmers in the Eastern Corn Belt and Great Lakes region should prepare for mixed weather conditions impacting planting schedules. The forecast indicates a combination of dry days and scattered rain showers over the next two weeks.
Saturday is expected to be mostly dry, with some cloud cover but no new precipitation. Sunday sees better sunshine for Michigan and Indiana, while Monday brings rain showers to northern Michigan before sunset, with the rest of lower Michigan and Indiana remaining dry.
Tuesday and Wednesday bring a weather system moving eastward, bringing rain showers to northern Michigan early Tuesday morning, followed by southwestern lower Michigan late morning, and the rest of the region late Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday midday.
Rainfall totals are projected to be half an inch or less in most areas, with slightly higher amounts in extreme southern Indiana and northern Michigan.
Dry weather returns for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, followed by moisture lifting from southwest into central and southern Indiana on Friday, producing rain with varying coverage across the state.
Unsettled weather continues over the Memorial Day weekend, with hit-and-miss showers on Saturday and Memorial Day, and a round of showers and storms expected on Sunday, with varying coverage and rainfall totals across Indiana and Michigan.
Looking ahead, the extended period remains humid and unsettled, with scattered showers expected on Thursday, and lingering precipitation in Michigan and northern Indiana into the first days of June. Warmer-than-normal temperatures are forecasted for the first half of June, with near-normal precipitation levels.
