Purdue Partners with Acres to Improve Farmland Market Insights

By Andi Anderson

The Purdue University Center for Commercial Agriculture (CCA) has partnered with Acres.com to enhance farmland market analysis. This collaboration combines Purdue’s research expertise with Acres’ extensive transaction data to provide accurate insights for farmers and landowners.

Advancing Farmland Market Research

Since the 1970s, Purdue’s Farmland Values and Cash Rent Survey has been a key source of farmland pricing information in Indiana. This annual survey compiles per-acre farmland price data from experts, offering valuable regional insights.

Key Insights from the Partnership

The new partnership with Acres enhances this data by offering county-level transaction insights. A preview of this collaboration shows that farmland prices in Indiana’s southwest region saw the largest annual growth, with a 22.5% increase. Some counties, such as Daviess and Greene, experienced price hikes of 69.5% and 56.3%, respectively. However, others, like Vigo (-24.9%) and Warrick (-32.2%), saw declines.

Helping Farmers Make Informed Decisions

With this deeper analysis, farmers and landowners gain a clearer understanding of farmland value trends. Professor Todd Kuethe of Purdue emphasized that this collaboration enables a more detailed look at farmland price fluctuations, providing crucial data for strategic decision-making in the agricultural sector.

Looking Ahead

More detailed reports will be released in the coming months as Purdue and Acres refine their analysis. This initiative ensures that farmers and stakeholders have access to the most comprehensive and accurate farmland market insights.
