Swine Health Improvement Plan: The Clock is Ticking



In March, we shared info about the Swine Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) and the importance of participation of every pork producer in Indiana. NOW is the time to get enrolled and check that off your list.

Why now?

The deadline is nearly here to be counted. The number of at-large voting delegates for Indiana will be determined by how many Indiana SHIP participants are enrolled by June. Each state will be allotted delegates based on how many producers and packers are enrolled by June. House of Delegates members will play an important role in setting the national policies and standards for the Swine Health Improvement Plan in the future that could directly impact the pork industry during a disease emergency.

3 steps for owners of swine production and/or slaughter facilities:

Timeline:

Complete action items by June 1 to ensure Indiana secures the maximum number of delegates for this year's annual program standards meeting and review. Delegates will be named to seven categories: Boar stud, breeding herd, growing pig, farrow-to-feeder/farrow-to-finish; small holding; non-commercial; and packers.
