Indiana Hits Record-Breaking Popcorn Production

It was a record-breaking year for popcorn growers in Indiana, according to Marlo Johnson, regional director for the USDA NASS, Great Lakes Region.

Indiana growers planted 94,000 acres of popcorn in 2020, up 19,000 acres from 2019. A record high total of 94,000 acres were harvested, up 20,000 acres from last year.

The 2020 average yield tied a State record at 49.0 cwt per acre. The 2020 yield was up 3 cwt/acre from last year. Total production was 4.61 million cwt, up 35 percent from a year ago.

The average price was $16.10 per cwt, an increase of $0.30 from the previous year. The crop value of production was $74.2 million dollars, up 38 percent from last year.
