The University of Indianapolis and Indiana Humanities extend an open invitation to the 2024 Richard M. Fairbanks Symposium on March 20. This year's theme, "Seed to Sustenance: Farming, Food, and Hunger in Indianapolis," amplifies the dialogue around critical issues affecting Hoosiers.
In its ninth edition, the free symposium at the Schwitzer Student Center is a platform for diverse voices to explore pathways from seed to sustenance. From 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., participants will engage in two insightful panels and a keynote conversation. The panels will dissect Indianapolis' food sourcing and education initiatives, led by local experts.
The keynote conversation features Fred Glass, CEO of Gleaners Food Bank, and Milele Kennedy, Director of Community, Nutrition, and Food Policy for Indianapolis. Dr. Ted Frantz, chair of the University of Indianapolis History department and event organizer, expresses excitement about the event's potential to bring about positive change.
A specially crafted buffet lunch, sourced entirely locally by UIndy Dining Executive Chef Taylor Hignite, adds a flavorful touch to the symposium experience.
