Boost livestock care with Purdue training

Boost livestock care with Purdue training

By Andi Anderson

Beef and dairy cattle producers are invited to Purdue Extension’s Calving Academy, a hands-on training event designed to teach critical skills such as cow restraint, calf manipulation, and neonatal calf triaging. This program is led by Dr. Bethany Funnell, an expert in bovine theriogenology from Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Participants can choose from several attendance packages:

Standard attendance: $50 per person

Attendance with OB chains and handles: $200

Attendance with a stainless-steel bucket, cup, and beta-dine scrub: $150

The academy will be held at four locations:

December 14, 2024: Don Strauss Animal Center, Huntington, IN (1–4 PM)

December 21, 2024: Feldun Purdue Ag. Center, Bedford, IN (1–4 PM)

January 4, 2025: Decatur County Extension Office, Greensburg, IN (1–4 PM)

January 11, 2025: Purina Pavilion, West Lafayette, IN (1–4 PM)

Producers can attend the event closest to them. For participants near Washington County, the Bedford location on December 21 is the most convenient.

Registration is required by December 5, 2024. Interested participants can register online through the provided link. This program is an excellent opportunity for producers to enhance their skills and improve livestock care.
