Crone Brothers Carry on Family Legacy at Indiana State Fair

Crone Brothers Carry on Family Legacy at Indiana State Fair

By Andi Anderson

The Crone family’s legacy of swine showing continues to thrive as Greyson (13) and Harris Crone (10) take their place in the ring at the Indiana State Fair. This tradition, which spans four generations, began with their great-grandparents and has now been passed down to these young showmen.

Both brothers recently showcased their pigs at the fair, continuing a proud family legacy that has extended from the Morgan County Fair to the hopes of competing on a national stage.

Greyson, who started showing pigs at just 4 years old, had set his sights on winning his division at the fair. Despite strong efforts and support from his younger brother Harris, he placed fifth in the Berkshire division and fourth in the Yorkshire division.

His brother Harris, a seasoned competitor at 10, placed fourth in the Duroc division. Although they didn’t reach their ultimate goals, both boys displayed remarkable skills and sportsmanship, embodying the spirit of competition.

The boys, who have been involved in 4-H since a young age, are guided by their grandmother, Jane Crone, who has led their 4-H club for 25 years. Jane resurrected the program after a break, inspired by Greyson’s desire to compete.

Under her leadership, the Crone brothers have thrived, and they have even expressed ambitions to compete at a national level through the National Junior Swine Association.

For the Crone family, success isn't just about winning awards—it's about the process. The boys raise many of their pigs from piglets, taking pride in their breeding and training. "If we do good with one we’ve bred, we are usually more happy with that than if we showed a pig we bought," Greyson shared.

Their father, Brady Crone, understands the dedication required for success, having shown pigs himself in his youth. He believes that hard work at home directly correlates with performance at the fair.

“The past two years, they have worked really, really hard at home,” Brady said, expressing confidence that their efforts will inspire future generations to carry on the family tradition.

Greyson and Harris continue to build on this foundation, and with their dedication, it’s clear the Crone family’s legacy in swine showing is in good hands for years to come.
