Fresh Start for Indiana's VetBoard

Fresh Start for Indiana's VetBoard

The Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine has undergone major changes, including a new name, new location, and new leadership. The board, now known as "VetBoard," has moved to share office space with the Indiana State Board of Animal Health (BOAH) in an effort to improve collaboration and enhance animal healthcare services.

With the aim of ensuring better access to veterinary care statewide, the VetBoard and BOAH will work together to coordinate efforts and explore innovative solutions. The move comes as a response to the challenges faced by animal owners in Indiana due to changes in the veterinary profession, increased pet ownership, and the thriving animal agriculture industry.

Dr. Bret D. Marsh, the Indiana State Veterinarian and chief administrative officer for both boards, expressed excitement about the opportunity for collaboration. He believes that by joining forces, the boards can provide improved veterinary services and address the needs of the state's animal owners more effectively.

Under the new arrangement, Laura Turner, JD, will lead the day-to-day operations of the VetBoard. She will receive support from administrative, communication, policy, and finance staff from the Board of Animal Health. The Indiana Office of the Attorney General will continue to handle investigations related to professional complaints.

The VetBoard has also launched a new website, www.in.gov/VetBoard/ , offering a wide range of resources for animal owners and veterinary professionals. This website will serve as a valuable tool to access important information and stay updated on veterinary matters in Indiana.

With these changes, the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine is embarking on a fresh start, committed to protecting and promoting the health and well-being of animals across the state. The collaborative efforts between VetBoard and BOAH aim to address the evolving needs of Indiana's animal care landscape, ensuring that access to quality veterinary services remains a top priority.
