Indiana Farm Bureau (INFB) has opened registration for its 2025 Drainage School, an annual educational workshop focused on the laws and regulations that influence drainage practices in Indiana.
This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, August 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Participants can attend either in person at INFB headquarters in Indianapolis or virtually from home.
The workshop is designed for farmers, landowners, public officials, agency staff, attorneys, and anyone interested in understanding how water drainage laws affect rural communities.
Attendees will explore topics such as government takings, common law rules, permit exemptions, and recent handbook changes. Updates on federal and state regulations, including Waters of the United States (WOTUS), wetlands, and Indiana dam safety, will also be covered.
The event will feature expert speakers from agriculture, government, and legal backgrounds. These speakers will present real-life case studies and offer clear guidance to help landowners make informed decisions about managing drainage on their land.
INFB President Randy Kron highlighted the event’s importance: “Water supply continues to be a major topic for Hoosier farmers, as we focus on quality and quantity of water and navigate water policy to protect agriculture and rural communities.”
In-person attendance is $50 for INFB members and $100 for non-members. The fee includes lunch. Virtual attendance costs $25 per person.
Registration is required. The deadline for in-person registration is August 19, while virtual registration is open until August 22. Participants can sign up at www.infb.org/events. Continuing education credits for attorneys and surveyors are being pursued.
This session is a valuable opportunity to stay current on Indiana’s water management rules.
