The Hendricks County Master Gardeners have announced a $2,000 scholarship for a Hendricks County student who plans to pursue higher education in a horticulture‑ or agriculture‑related field.
This scholarship will be awarded for the 2026–2027 academic year and aims to encourage students interested in plant science, farming, and environmental stewardship.
To apply, students must complete an application form and include several supporting materials. These include a one‑page essay of at least 200 words, details about involvement in clubs, organizations, or community activities, and two letters of recommendation.
Applicants must also provide permission for their name to be shared with local news media and submit proof of enrollment for the Fall semester once available.
Applications must be submitted by mail and postmarked no later than April 15, 2026. The selected student will be notified by May 8, 2026. Interested applicants can access the scholarship form by visiting hendricksgardeners.com and clicking on the scholarship application link. For additional questions, students may contact Scholarship Chair Teri Mitchum at (210) 413‑3840.
The Hendricks County Master Gardeners operate through the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and are known for their commitment to public education. Their program provides extensive training in science‑based horticultural practices.
Students who complete the 14‑session Master Gardener class begin their journey toward certification and continue by sharing their knowledge with the community through volunteer service.
The group also maintains a demonstration garden located just west of the Fairgrounds Conference Center, where visitors can learn about gardening techniques, plant varieties, and sustainable practices. Regular meetings for members are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds & Conference Center.
This scholarship reflects the organization’s mission to support education, promote horticulture, and encourage young leaders to develop their skills in agriculture and environmental care.
