Indiana brewers’ cup 25th anniversary

The Indiana Brewers’ Cup, a prestigious annual brewing competition hosted by the Indiana State Fair, celebrated its 25th anniversary this past weekend.

This milestone event attracted an impressive number of homebrewers and professional breweries from across the country, solidifying its reputation as one of the largest competitions of its kind in the nation.

With 1,500 entries, the Indiana Brewers’ Cup showcased the talent and creativity of both amateur and professional brewers. The competition is a Master Championship of Amateur Brewing (MCAB) Qualifying Event, MHP Circuit of America event, and a Midwest Homebrewer of the Year Circuit Event. As the first competition annually held by the State Fair, it kicks off a month of various competitions that draw nearly 10,000 participants.

This year’s top winners were celebrated for their exceptional brewing skills:

Best of Show Mead/Cider Home Brew: Eldritchberry Terrors by Bill Boyer

Bill Friday Award: Tippecanoe Homebrewers Circle

Indiana Homebrew Club of the Year: Foam Blowers of Indiana (FBI)

Indiana Mead/Cidermaker of the Year: Kyle Ducharme

Indiana Homebrewer of the Year: Metts Potter

Indiana Amateur Grand Champion of the Year: Metts Potter

Best of Show Mead/Cider Pro: Muffin Top by Urban Vines Winery & Brewery

Best of Show Beer Pro: Free Range Farmhouse by Sun King – Fishers

Indiana Meadery/Cidery of the Year: McClure’s Orchard/Winery

“Purdue Extension is excited to once again be part of the 2024 Indiana State Fair. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of 4-H youth from across the state and to showcase our diverse programs,” said Angie Abbott, interim director of Purdue Extension and associate dean in the College of Agriculture. “This event provides the opportunity to engage with stakeholders from across Indiana, offering attendees the chance to learn about sustainable practices and healthy lifestyles through our interactive demonstrations and activities. We are particularly looking forward to the educational exhibits at the Purdue Extension Building, where attendees can connect with various Extension experts and engage with rotating interactive displays.”

The Indiana Brewers’ Cup continues to highlight the dedication and expertise of brewers, providing a platform for both emerging and established talents to be recognized.

The event not only celebrates the art of brewing but also fosters a sense of community among participants and attendees alike.

As the Indiana State Fair continues through August, the Brewers’ Cup stands out as a testament to the passion and skill within the brewing industry. The competition's 25th anniversary marks a significant achievement, reflecting its enduring importance and influence in the world of brewing.
