Indiana Farm Bureau picks candidates

Indiana Farm Bureau picks candidates

By Andi Anderson

Indiana Farm Bureau ELECT, the federal, nonpartisan political action committee (PAC) of the organization, has announced its endorsements for seven congressional candidates in the 2024 general election. This move underscores the critical role of agriculture in the upcoming election.

“This election is going to be extremely important for agriculture. Indiana Farm Bureau endorsements are taken very seriously as a part of the organization’s grassroots advocacy effort,” stated INFB President Randy Kron. “The goal of our PAC is to back candidates who are willing to listen and engage in issues impacting agriculture. We rely on public officials who will advocate on behalf of Hoosier agriculture and serve as our voice in Washington D.C.”

The Indiana Farm Bureau emphasizes that federal engagement will be essential in the next Congress, particularly for key agricultural issues such as the farm bill, labor, and taxes.

Throughout the year, INFB has maintained constant communication with the Indiana congressional delegation regarding these topics, highlighting the ongoing legislative work needed.

The endorsed candidates by INFB ELECT are as follows:

Congressional District 1: Frank Mrvan (D)

Congressional District 2: Rudy Yakym (R)

Congressional District 4: Jim Baird (R)

Congressional District 5: Victoria Spartz (R)

Congressional District 6: Jefferson Shreve (R)

Congressional District 8: Mark Messmer (R)

Congressional District 9: Erin Houchin (R)

The endorsement process by INFB ELECT is thorough and grassroots-driven, involving county leaders from across Indiana who conduct candidate interviews.

Their recommendations are then presented to the oversight committee and the INFB board of directors for final approval.

An endorsement from the Indiana Farm Bureau signifies a candidate’s commitment to policies that support a positive environment for agriculture and rural communities.

This recognition reflects the candidate’s alignment with the goals and values of Indiana’s agricultural sector.

With these endorsements, the Indiana Farm Bureau aims to ensure that the voices of Hoosier farmers and rural communities are effectively represented in Washington D.C., advocating for policies that will benefit the agricultural industry and rural life in Indiana.
