Indiana Young Farmers Honored at Annual Conference

The 2024 Indiana Farm Bureau (INFB) Young Farmers & Ag Professionals Conference, held in Plainfield, Ind., celebrated outstanding achievements and contributions in agriculture while offering valuable education and networking opportunities for members under the age of 40.

The conference, focusing on motivating and preparing young agricultural professionals for success, featured keynote addresses from Rob Sharkey, the "SharkFarmer," and Clinton Griffiths, anchor and editorial director for AgDay Television. Breakout sessions covered topics ranging from family farm transitions and partnerships with veterinarians to risk management in agritourism and first aid on the farm.

The conference recognized several INFB members and county Young Farmers & Ag Professionals (YF&AP) programs for their notable accomplishments in 2023.

Henry County Farm Bureau's YF&AP program received the Outstanding County Young Farmers & Ag Professionals Award, marking them as the top program in the state. The county was awarded $1,000 to create a new program/event or enhance an existing one. Their focus on philanthropy and community activities, such as bowling nights, cookouts, pedal pulls, and "Meals in the Fields," contributed to their success.

Jessica Wenning, Henry County YF&AP chair, expressed pride in the team effort and looks forward to utilizing the additional funds for future programs.

Runners-up for the award were Farm Bureaus in Hamilton and Orange counties, each receiving $500.

Perry and St. Joseph counties were recognized as the Most Improved Young Farmers & Ag Professionals programs, showcasing improvements in activities and programs over the past two years.

County YF&AP programs were also acknowledged for their contributions to Feeding America, with St. Joseph County Farm Bureau leading in non-perishable food items donated, and Orange County Farm Bureau contributing the most money and time.

The conference also marked the installation of new state YF&AP leaders, with Brock Kiesler, Jason Carey, and Jessica Baggerman assuming the roles of chair, vice chair, and secretary, respectively. District YF&AP leaders for various districts were also appointed for two-year terms.
