Nominate Indiana agriculture teachers for the Golden Owl Award

Nominate Indiana agriculture teachers for the Golden Owl Award

By Andi Anderson

Agricultural educators across Indiana have the chance to be recognized for their dedication and impact on students, with the nomination period now open for the prestigious Golden Owl Award.

This award, established by Nationwide in 2018, honours agriculture teachers who dedicate countless hours to educating and inspiring the next generation of leaders in the agricultural industry. Indiana’s FFA is currently accepting nominations, allowing students, parents, colleagues, and community members to celebrate teachers who have made a significant difference.

Since the program’s inception, the Golden Owl Award has provided nearly half a million dollars in support of agriculture teachers, their students, and school programs. Last year alone, more than 3,500 nominations were submitted from across 11 states.

Due to the award’s success, it has expanded to include Kentucky and Maryland, now recognizing outstanding agricultural teachers across 13 states, including Indiana.

Nominations for Indiana’s top agricultural educators for the 2024-2025 Golden Owl Award can be submitted from November 1 through December 31. After the nomination period, a selection committee will choose eight finalists in Indiana.

Each finalist will be celebrated in their schools with a personalized plaque and a $500 award. One finalist will then receive the grand prize, the title of Indiana’s Ag Educator of the Year, a Golden Owl Award trophy, and an additional $3,000 to further their educational initiatives.

In addition to individual awards, Nationwide also supports agricultural education through community donations. Each state’s FFA, including Indiana’s, receives $5,000 from Nationwide to enhance student and teacher growth.

This support aligns with Nationwide’s commitment to the future of agriculture, contributing to the growth and success of agricultural communities across the country.

The Golden Owl Award is named after the owl, a symbol of wisdom and knowledge within the FFA emblem, signifying the dedication of agricultural educators who empower students through knowledge. This award reflects the gratitude and appreciation for those teachers who shape the future of agriculture.
