Precision Agriculture Software Hackathon Invites Purdue Students

Precision Agriculture Software Hackathon Invites Purdue Students

By Andi Anderson

A new hackathon is giving Purdue undergraduate students the chance to explore technology and agriculture together in an exciting and practical way.

The Precision Agriculture Software Hackathon is designed to bring students together for a weekend of teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving focused on modern farming challenges.

The event is being hosted by the NSF ERC IoT4Ag and will take place from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Students will gather on campus to work in teams and develop software solutions related to precision agriculture.

A parallel hackathon will also take place at the University of California, Merced, showing that interest in agricultural technology continues to grow across universities.

Precision agriculture uses technology to help farmers make better decisions, improve efficiency, and manage crops and resources more accurately. By joining this event, students will have the opportunity to build new ideas that can support farming through software and digital tools. The hackathon creates an environment where learning, innovation, and collaboration come together in a meaningful way.

Participants will be able to work closely with other students, share ideas, and create projects within a limited time. These types of events often help students improve technical skills, teamwork, communication, and creative thinking. They also provide useful experience in applying classroom knowledge to real-world agriculture problems.

The event offers prizes for the best-performing teams. The top team will receive more than four hundred dollars, while the runner-up team will receive more than two hundred dollars. In addition to the competition, free food and drinks will be provided throughout the weekend, helping students stay focused and engaged during the program.

Registration is required for participation, and students are encouraged to join the event’s Discord server to learn more and sign up.

This hackathon is a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students who are interested in coding, innovation, and the future of agriculture.

Overall, the event highlights how technology is becoming an important part of farming. It also encourages students to think creatively about how software can help improve agricultural systems and support the next generation of precision farming solutions.
