River Friendly Farmers win awards

By Andi Anderson

On August 7, the Indiana State Fair will host the River Friendly Farmer Awards Ceremony, honoring 42 farmers and landowners for their outstanding conservation practices and protection of Indiana's waterways.

This event celebrates their dedication to preserving the environment and will take place from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. at the 4-H Exhibit Hall Auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Indiana State Fairgrounds, located at 1202 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN.

The awards ceremony is sponsored by Indiana Farm Bureau, The Nature Conservancy, the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts, along with the 92 Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Indiana.

These organizations have come together to recognize and celebrate the efforts of farmers who have implemented effective conservation practices to safeguard the state's waterways.

The event will feature an array of notable attendees, including the award recipients and their families, who will be recognized for their contributions to environmental conservation.

Eric Shideler, Conservation Director of Vermillion County Soil & Water Conservation District, will serve as the emcee. Distinguished guests include Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, Kendell Culp, Vice President of Indiana Farm Bureau, Damarys Mortenson, State Conservationist for USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Jeff Baker, President of the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

The ceremony highlights the critical role that farmers play in protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. By honoring these individuals, the event aims to inspire other farmers to adopt similar conservation methods, contributing to the overall health of Indiana's environment and waterways.

Attendees are encouraged to join and cover this important event, which underscores the significance of agricultural conservation efforts. The River Friendly Farmer Awards Ceremony not only acknowledges the hard work and dedication of Indiana's farmers but also emphasizes the importance of continuing these efforts for future generations.
