Sustainable Farming Practices Win Big at Red Gold Stewardship Award


Myers Sod Farms LLC of Seymour, Indiana and Niese Ag LLC of Pandora, Ohio. have been named the winners of the 2023 Red Gold Stewardship Award. The award recognizes Red Gold tomato growers who value improving soil health and water quality on their operations.

Myers Sod Farms LLC is also a leader in sustainable agriculture. The farm has implemented a variety of conservation measures, including reduced tillage, regular soil testing, and cover crops and living covers.

Niese Ag LLC has been farming for over 100 years and is committed to sustainable agriculture practices. The farm has implemented a variety of conservation measures, including interseeding cover crops in corn and soybeans, grass filter strips, and vegetative field borders.

Both Niese Ag LLC and Myers Sod Farms LLC are committed to leaving the land better than they found it for future generations. They are an inspiration to other farmers and are helping to lead the way in sustainable agriculture.

The Red Gold Stewardship Award is a partnership between Red Gold and the Indiana State Department of Agriculture. The award is presented annually to two Red Gold tomato growers who have demonstrated a commitment to soil health and water quality.

The award winners were selected by a panel of judges that included representatives from Red Gold, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The winners of the 2023 Red Gold Stewardship Award will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the option to ship an extra truckload of tomatoes per day during harvest season. The second-place winner will receive a $500 scholarship and the opportunity to ship an extra half truckload of tomatoes per day during harvest season.
