The Indiana Corn Growers Association and Indiana Soybean Alliance Membership and Policy Committee have some exciting events on the horizon that you won’t want to miss. Their annual Indiana Ag Policy Summit is set to take place at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Noblesville on Wednesday, July 31.

“We’re really excited that former Ag Secretary Mike Johanns is going to be joining us,” says Steve Howell, Senior Director of Industry Affairs for the Corn and Soy policy groups. “He’s a former senator, former governor of Nebraska, and former Ag Secretary under George W. Bush.”

Johanns will discuss the status of the farm bill among other important topics. Kyle Kunkler from the American Soybean Association will lead a discussion on the EPA’s herbicide strategy to comply with the Endangered Species Act, which affects pesticide use in certain areas of the state.

This year’s event will also feature a new Technology Showcase. “It’s not a trade show, but a showcase to see some new technology that might interest farmers,” Howell explains. “It’s not a high-pressure sales pitch, just a chance to look at new technology coming to the market.”

Following the Policy Summit, several Shop Talks will be organized around the state, providing farmers with opportunities to meet with legislators.

Indiana Soybean Alliance Chairman Kevin Cox highlights the importance of these events, encouraging farmers to attend and share their experiences.

“Understanding those challenges and being able to convey them to legislators is invaluable,” says Cox.

“When it’s a personal story, legislators understand and see the value in that. So, if producers and members can come out and participate in these Shop Talks, tell their story, that’s what counts.”

The upcoming events hosted by the Indiana Corn Growers Association and Indiana Soybean Alliance offer valuable opportunities for farmers to engage in policy discussions, explore new technologies, and connect with legislators.

These events are crucial for addressing farming challenges and influencing future agricultural policies in Indiana. Don't miss out on the chance to be part of these important conversations and advancements in farming practices.
