Ainsley Peterson Joins Indiana Farm Bureau as Legal Extern

By Andi Anderson

Ainsley Peterson, a second-year law student at Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law, has been selected as a legal extern at Indiana Farm Bureau for the spring term. She will primarily work with the Indiana Agricultural Law Foundation under the guidance of Director John Shoup.

Peterson grew up on a commercial cow/calf operation in Florida, where she developed a deep understanding of agriculture. She moved to the Midwest five years ago to attend the University of Illinois, earning degrees in agricultural and consumer economics as well as agricultural leadership, education, and communications.

Her experience includes internships at the Illinois Soybean Association, United States Beet Sugar Association, and the Agricultural and Consumer Economics School at Illinois. Most recently, she served as a law clerk at Janzen and Schroeder Agricultural Law in Indianapolis, gaining hands-on experience in agricultural legal matters.

Beyond academics, Peterson has been actively involved in livestock judging and collegiate Farm Bureau activities. She enjoys attending livestock events nationwide and assisting at her fiancé Cody Dawson’s family farm in Rush County.

Her new role at Indiana Farm Bureau allows her to apply her agricultural and legal expertise to support farmers and agricultural policies in Indiana. Through this externship, she aims to strengthen her understanding of agricultural law while contributing to the legal foundation’s efforts to assist the farming community.

With her passion for agriculture and legal expertise, Peterson is expected to make a significant impact during her time at Indiana Farm Bureau.
