Purdue University is set to host the 50th James C. Snyder Memorial Lecture, featuring Esther L. George, former president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, as the keynote speaker. The lecture will take place at 1:30 p.m. on April 4 in the Deans Auditorium at David C. Pfendler Hall.
George will speak on “The Shifting Economic Landscape,” addressing current global and national economic trends and their impact on industries such as agriculture.
With more than 40 years of experience at the Federal Reserve, George brings deep knowledge of financial markets, economic policy, and banking regulation.
She served as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee from 2011 to 2023 and played a key role in modernizing U.S. retail payments through the FedNow Service.
Her lecture will explore how evolving fiscal and monetary policies and technology are reshaping the economic future for households, businesses, and policymakers.
During her time at the Federal Reserve, George led the Tenth District, overseeing seven states and contributing to national financial stability. She also hosted the well-known Jackson Hole Economic Symposium, which gathers international leaders to discuss major policy issues.
Beyond her public service, George is active on several boards, including the Hallmark Corporation and the Peterson Institute for International Economics. She also continues to manage her family farm in Missouri, connecting her directly to agricultural concerns.
The James C. Snyder Memorial Lecture began in 1975 in memory of Dr. James Snyder, a Purdue professor known for his contributions to agricultural economics and quantitative research. This event continues to honor his legacy by bringing leading voices to discuss critical economic issues.
The event is free and open to the public, celebrating 50 years of excellence in economic thought and agricultural leadership at Purdue University.
